Day 17

As I was paying bills earlier in the week I noticed an unusual overage in our checking account. I assumed maybe some payments didn't go through yet, but nope, everything was paid. I guess not going out to eat and cutting out drinking completely has really given a break to our checking account. We did frequently go out to eat and now the only eating out we do is a salad bar to go or the raw restaurant in Dallas. We also used to average a couple of bottles of wine a week and Patrick drank about a six pack a week-- and he likes very expensive beer so I guess the savings makes sense. People always talk about how it's cheaper to eat junk food than health food and I've always found that to be a cop out. I completely understand not being able to afford getting everything single thing organic and unprocessed but even if you are not eating raw, there is tons of inexpensive healthy alternatives to processed crap and honestly, a lot of that processed crap is expensive. I love what Any Phyo says about "not having a bargain body" and that she won't put harmful things into her body to save some money. I totally agree. As much as I love shopping, I'd give that up in a second if it meant I had to go back to eating the crap I did in my single days. I suppose it's a choice as to how you want to invest your money and I choose to invest in my health and the health of my family and looking at my checking account, it's actually cheaper, a lot cheaper, for us to eat raw. I'm pretty pleased with that.
